Reading, Berkshire – [UNDER EMABRGO UNTIL 24th September 2007]: CDG Europe, a leading IT innovation distributor, today announced it has signed an exclusive UK distribution agreement with Cranberry to market and support its new Smart Client computer. The SC20 Smart Client is a hybrid thin/fat client device that provides the benefits of thin client technology – better security, lower management and running costs – with the power and flexibility of a conventional PC. The highly energy-efficient device will be targeted at the growing number of companies deploying both thin and fat client application models (see separate release).

“CDG Europe has a proven track record in identifying technologies that drive innovation, shape new market opportunities and go beyond end-user expectations. We were early to spot the potential of server-based computing and virtualisation, for example, enabling our channel partners to develop strategic services and solutions that deliver clear value to businesses,” said Allan Tyrrell, UK managing director at CDG. “Our new partnership with Cranberry reflects our focus on innovation. The new Smart Client will be compelling for companies deploying a variety of application delivery models.”

“Cranberry was looking for a distribution partner with proven expertise in next generation application deployment models together with strong marketing, sales and technical support capabilities and CDG excelled in all areas,” said Simon Ponsford, technical director at Cranberry. “We look forward to working with CDG to bring the benefits of our technology to UK businesses and help resellers tap into a market with significant opportunity. Many organisations are developing environments that integrate both thin client and fat client computing models. Cranberry’s Smart Client breaks new ground in providing a highly efficient device that is attuned to both worlds while addressing the need for greener computing.”

Cranberry’s SC20 Smart Client computer is no bigger than a paperback book and can perform all the functions of a bulky business PC - including Internet browsing - but uses a fraction of the electricity. Featuring an ultra-efficient microprocessor, the SC20 consumes just ten per cent of the power of a standard PC and offers total freedom from viruses and spyware. It has all the easy management and security features of a thin client computer but can also run applications locally and virtually, just like a conventional PC.

The agreement with Cranberry supports CDG’s strategy to expand its presence in the UK working with vendors at the forefront of innovation. In the UK, the distributor’s vendor partnerships include SWsoft, a key player in virtualisation, whose product lines include Virtuozzo, a leading operating system virtualisation solution, and Parallels, a leading desktop virtualisation product. It is also the distributor for RES, a fast growing provider of powerful solutions for managing Windows environments. As well as signing new vendors, CDG is looking to increase its partner base in the UK.

“We are building on our European success, establishing CDG in the UK as a specialist innovation distributor for emerging technologies. We will play an instrumental role in driving market awareness for the emerging technologies we support and creating end-user opportunities for skilled solution providers,” adds Tyrrell.
