Redhill, UK, 6 January 2009 – mgate has integrated video conferencing and wireless vital signs monitoring into JAOtech patient terminals to create one of the world’s most capable platforms for the delivery of telemedicine services in the home or remote locations. JAOtech terminals are already installed at over 15,000 beds in 60 hospitals worldwide.
mgate software implemented on the JAOtech terminals uses the integral camera to facilitate high quality personal interaction between patient and carer via a two way video link. In addition, the solution allows Bluetooth® based wellness and vital signs monitoring instruments to be connected to the terminal. The software offers carers the facility both to take instant readings in real time, and also to review results captured by the instruments over a period and logged on the JAOtech terminal.
Commenting, Warren Kressinger-Dunn, Managing Director of JAOtech said, “Telemedecine is a crucial and growing area of patient care, allowing care services to deliver higher quality services to a larger number of patients efficiently without the need for travel by either party. The way that mgate has been able to use our terminals to create an innovative software solution that addresses this need underlines the capability and flexibility of our platform.”
Ulrich Bruell, Managing Director of mgate added, “JAOtech terminals are in widespread use worldwide in hospital environments and provide the perfect platform to take care services into patient’s homes efficiently. The terminals are robust, offer a reliable and intuitive touch interface, are easy to clean and withstand spillage. Based on state of the art PC hardware, they also already support the connectivity and content delivery technologies we required, allowing us to bring our telehealth solution to market quickly and with reduced risk.”
Using the mgate software, JAOtech terminals can be interfaced to a very wide range of Bluetooth based instruments including ECG devices, a spirometer, blood pressure / glucose monitors, pulse oximeters, a weight scale and a maternal foetal monitor.
