Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ Business PCs already use less than 1 Watt when on standby...
Bracknell, January 07, 2009 – The majority of Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ Business PCs already meet the new EU directive regarding low standby power consumption. The regulation went into effect on January 5, 2009 with a one-year transitional period and the law states that as of January 5, 2010, all electrical and electronic office as well as household equipment must prove that they use less than 1 Watt on standby power.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ innovative "Low Power Soft Off” function already allows PCs in the ESPRIMO C/E/P5730 and ESPRIMO E/P7935 series as well as the CELSIUS W370 workstation to be below this value today. Around 90 per cent of these professional PCs are even below 0.5 Watt – a rate that is not required by law until 2013. These high standards from the leading European IT infrastructure provider emphasise once again Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ environmental product policy and its innovative leadership in "Green IT". Last year, the company introduced its zero Watt monitor.
The directive states that the new EU regulation “should increase the market penetration of technologies yielding improved energy efficiency for standby functionalities and off-mode losses, leading to estimated energy savings of 35 TWh by 2020, compared to a business-as-usual scenario.” The full directive can be seen at

Fujitsu Siemens Computers fully supports this objective. In order to move device power consumption towards zero, the company has developed a function known as “Low Power Soft Off/Deep Sleep”. A pre-defined setting allows the user to minimise energy consumption during the standby mode to less than 1 Watt. This configuration provides power just for the on/off switch but only enough so that it can "wake up" the system again.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers has already been meeting the requirement for devices to use less than 1 Watt on standby for over 12 months – even before the law went into effect, and proving once again that the company is a market leader in “Green IT”.
